Di-ORDER: Construction DX From Site Ordering to Core Operations, Built With a Team That Knows the Job Site

Overview

On a construction site, many parties exchange materials: tradespeople, general contractors, manufacturers, trading companies, and haulers. Orders came in by LINE, phone, and fax, with no single method, and wrong part numbers and mix-ups over deliveries were an everyday occurrence.

We are co-developing "Di-ORDER," an ordering system for construction sites, with Atsuta Kenso Co., Ltd., an interior finishing contractor. Development has continued since the release, and our support has expanded to a tradespeople app, an e-commerce store, and a core system that connects every part of the business.

Service site: Di-ORDER

Challenges

  • Ordering methods differed from person to person, making errors in part numbers and quantities likely
  • Delivery schedules and changes were communicated to manufacturers and hoisting contractors by phone or fax
  • Ordering, tradespeople scheduling, billing, and other tasks each used separate tools, so the same information was entered again and again

What We Did

  • Developed "Di-ORDER," which brings together material ordering, delivery schedules, and communication for each site
  • A tradespeople app for handling site schedules and completion reports on a smartphone
  • An e-commerce store for building materials, integrated with accounting and payment services
  • A core system that manages information on the company, tradespeople, sites, and materials in one place and connects every system

Results

  • Unified orders into a single format and made it possible to order from the site by smartphone
  • Di-ORDER grew from an in-house tool into a service also provided to other construction companies (22 companies have adopted it, according to the service site)
  • Also according to the service site, ordering workload was cut by 65% and ordering errors by 92%

Development Led by a Team Member Who Knows Construction Sites

One of our team members has 10 years of experience on construction sites and leads development across this entire project. Because this member knows when tradespeople place orders and where mix-ups happen, we were able to design screens and workflows that are actually used on site.

Use of AI

FeatureWhat it does
AI assistantJust say something like "Show me last week's orders" to search data or draft an order
Delivery schedule readingReads delivery schedules in PDF and imports their contents into the screen
Bankbook readingReads deposits and withdrawals from scanned bankbook PDFs and imports them after review by the person in charge
Site photo sortingAutomatically sorts photos and documents posted to the site chat into categories such as construction photos, daily reports, and inspections

Every feature switches to normal processing when AI is unavailable, so operations never stop.

A Partner in the Truest Sense

For more than three years since the project began, we have continued development almost every month. Starting from the ordering system, we have kept thinking and building together as the client's business grows, extending to tradespeople management, billing, deposits and withdrawals, and profit-and-loss management.

Working alongside the client not as buyer and vendor, but as teammates building the same business: that is what co-creation means to us.

We will continue to put this experience to work in advancing DX in the construction industry.

Our Scope of Work

  • Planning and requirements definition
  • Design, development, and testing
  • Feature development and operations after release
  • Concept and construction of the core system

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you develop with a real understanding of construction industry operations? Yes. In this project, a team member with 10 years of experience on construction sites led development across the entire project. The language and workflows of the site can be reflected directly in the design.

Can a system built for our own use be turned into a service for other companies? Yes. Di-ORDER in this case study also started as a system built for in-house use and has grown into a service provided to other construction companies.

We have several existing systems. Can they be brought together? Yes. In this project, we built a core system that connects ordering, the tradespeople app, the e-commerce store, and accounting, so the same information no longer has to be entered again and again.
