Development Begins on a LINE-Based Day-Use Bathing Reservation System for Ryokan

We have begun developing a reservation system that runs entirely on LINE, aimed at streamlining reservation management and improving the customer experience for day-use bathing at ryokan (traditional Japanese inns). The service is a platform that completes every step, from accepting reservations to payment, cancellations, and check-in, on LINE, providing the best possible experience for all three parties: ryokan owners, staff, and guests.

Development Background and Market Challenges

Many ryokan handle day-use bathing reservations through several channels, such as phone, LINE, and walk-in reception, which makes it difficult to manage reservation information in one place. Staff handle bookings, changes, and cancellations by hand, so the workload is heavy and mistakes and delays happen easily. And because reservation status and customer data are not visible in real time, it is difficult to get the information needed for management decisions right away.

Guests also experience many inconveniences, such as having to give their name and contact details every time, the hassle of calling to change or cancel a reservation, and waiting at check-in.

Key Features of the Service

The system dramatically streamlines reservation management at ryokan with the following features.

  • Fully automated reservation handling: bookings, changes, and cancellations are all processed automatically on LINE, so staff no longer need to handle them by hand.

  • Centralized customer information in a CRM: reservation history and usage trends are managed in one place, and owners can see reservation status and sales data in real time.

  • A seamless guest experience: after registering once, guests can complete a reservation in a few clicks. Fast check-in by QR code and advance payment, so there is nothing to pay on the day, make for a stress-free experience.

  • Multilingual support: English, Chinese, Korean, and other languages are supported, so international visitors to Japan can make reservations smoothly as well.

Next Steps

The service is scheduled for release in November 2025. It aims to improve operational efficiency, revenue, and customer satisfaction at ryokan all at once. It is currently in the early stages of development, and going forward we will work with ryokan operators to develop features that meet real needs on the ground and bring the service into practical use.
